Alma Road Car Park Campaign Background
Campaigners launch Web Site in Battle to Stop Council PlansAngry residents fighting to prevent the construction of a massive 500 space car park in the centre of Windsor have launched a Web Site to support their campaign. The site, containing photographs of the affected area, plus a wealth of background information, is intended to form the focal point of the campaign and provide the information that local residents need to oppose Windsor and Maidenhead Borough's plans. The site also features extracts from W S Atkins report that the campaigners claim is being ignored by the Borough, plus articles on the many alternatives that would reduce, rather than increase, traffic levels and pollution in that part of town. Featured too is an article about Sir Sydney Camm, the illustrious designer of the Hurricane fighter, whose home is threatened with demolition to make way for the required access road. As one campaigner says, "This is madness. The planned Car Park is just not a viable option for the 21st Century. The massive tailbacks of traffic, sometimes as far as the M4, just cannot be tolerated in this day and age. This is a residential area, yet the Borough want to channel an extra two miles of queuing traffic through it! The pollution will be terrible. The Borough have in their possession a report that includes a number of forward looking solutions and they should act on that."
