Windsorians were delighted
that HM Queen Elizabeth chose to spend her 80th birthday at Windsor.
At midday The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh walked down from
the Henry VIII Gateway pausing regularly to chat with members
of the public and to receive countless bunches of flowers and
other gifts not only from Windsorians but from many others who
had travelled from far and wide to be a part of the celebrations.
The Queen and Duke left the castle promptly at midday,
and walked and chatted for 45 minutes down Castle Hill, turning
right into the High Street towards the Central Station and returning
on the opposite side of the road, past the Guildhall where many
schoolchildren were gathered, towards Park Street where the queen
finally climbed into her car and returned to the castle. This
was a Bravura performance for anyone, let alone an 80 years old,
who continued to smile all the time, receiving hundreds of bouquets,
cards and other gifts including a cake.
We are pleased to be able to feature here some photographs
by Suzanne Garland who had travelled up from Hampshire to record
the event. To purchase copies of Suzanne's photographs, please
