First Sea
Lord, Admiral Sir Alan West
Guest Speaker
at Windsor Boys School
Speech Day, 27th June 2006
It is a very odd feeling
meeting someone you went to school with 46 years ago, but haven't
seen since. It is even odder when that individual has achieved
as much as Admiral Sir Alan West. He was a pupil at Windsor Boys
School from 1959-1961, then moved to Scotland before enrolling
in the Royal Navy.
At
Windsor Boys School on Tuesday 27th June 2006 he was indeed an
honoured guest, laughing gamely at the seemingly endless naval
puns, ensuring that he had a word with absolutely EVERY prize
winner as they came up on stage, and finishing the evening with
an excellent speech, at times very moving as he described the
loss of his ship, HMS Ardent, and 22 of his colleagues. He was
also amusing as he described incidents whilst planning the Nelson
Bicentenary in 2005. It was a real pleasure to welcome him back
to Windsor Boys School.
