Brief Notes

The Vansittart Road Recreation Ground (Public Open Space) has been under threat of development three times in the last 60 years, once in June 1947, again in 1952 [READ REPORT] and yet again in 1989. Following a public outcry the plans were scrapped and the question in 1999 became "What amenities could best be provided now that the Athletics Club has moved to the new Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Pococks Lane, Eton?"

The answer, it was decided, was a skate park which although welcomed, was generally considered to be in the wrong place, and a children's play area. The entire field was also fenced to keep dogs off the recreation areas.
