I am very pleased to include links to the following. I have included them in an images file in readiness for use on the RWWS but they are not actually linked to yet hence this personal and private viewing for you until we have worked out what is what and where! They are quite large image files so you can receive the detail they contain.

The first image shows Bier Lane buildings from the west, Barry Avenue in effect, but from those days when it was merely the path to Clewer and known as Clewer Meadows. Hard to know which building is which, although one has as sign board at the end. Looks more like a boat builders or wood merchants with open sides? This picture is highly enlarged from a more general view west.

The second is Bier Lane area from Brocas 1870s: Once again this is an enlarged view of one section of an albumen print I have here. The buildings show clearly, one having a sign partially hidden by a tree, centre, pretty much on the site of the Thames Hotel, I would say, and another building to the right facing the river with small windows and without any signage, but see further below, where the same building now has a sign. It does not say Anglers Rest sadly, it says R Allen!

The picture below is later and with evidence of early promenade construction. Note the buildings to the right of 'R Allen's' pub-like building. They have disappeared in the final photo.

Hard to date the picture below - or any of them for that matter - but this is the latest of this set. Promenade construction is under way, some ivy seems to have grown over the warehouses to the left, near Christopher Wrens house. Note the pine tree outside R Allen's property. It also seems to feature here...
