The Royal Windsor Tapestry Manufactory
1876-1890
Extract from 1881 Census Form
Many French families are recorded in the 1881 census in Old Windsor. The above shows that the master weaver Jean Foussadier from Aubusson was living at Walnut Cottage in St Luke's Road, with his wife Marie, a tapestry repairer, and their sons Antoine and Victor. After the failure of the RWTM in 1890 they were persuaded to move to New York to help found the first tapestry works in America.
